29, 2019 (HealthDay News) -- Plasma concentration of glial fibrillary acidic protein (GFAP) can aid in detecting traumatic brain injury (TBI) by identifying patients with negative findings on computed tomography (CT) scan who might need magnetic resonance imaging (MRI) and additional follow-up, according to a study published online Aug.
The presented data show that repeat closed head injury resulted in activation of glial fibrillary acidic proteins; mirroring data found in other traumatic brain injury models.
According to the company, the BRAINBox TBI test is composed of a multiplex, fluorescence immunoassay using a panel of in-vitro diagnostic serum measurements, including the biomarkers Glial Fibrillary Acidic Protein (GFAP), Neuron Specific Enolase (NSE), Neurogranin (NRGN) and others and a quantitative interpretation of test results derived from these measurements in conjunction with computerized neurological assessments.
A post-mortem examination found Mr Smith died of multiple organ failure, with CMV pneumonitis and renal transplant for fibrillary glomerulonephritis (kidney disease) as contributing factors, the inquest heard.
Gliomas contain Glial Fibrillary Acidic Protein (GFAP) and lack collagen, reticulin and fibronectin in their parenchyma, distinguishing them from non-glial neoplasms.
The glial component resembles GBM and is richly positive for glial fibrillary acidic protein (GFAP), while the sarcomatous component resembles fibrosarcoma, but may also resemble osteosarcoma, chondrosarcoma, angiosarcoma,or rhabdomyosarcoma,5,6 and is rich in reticulin and poor in GFAP expression.
Objective: To study the dynamic changes and clinical significance of serum S100B protein and glial fibrillary acidic protein (GFAP) in patients with delayed encephalopathy after acute carbon monoxide poisoning (DEACMP).
