[USA], Oct 9 (ANI): According to a new research, regular use of the party drug GHB (
Gamma-hydroxybutyrate), which is often placed in alcoholic beverages, is associated with brain changes including negative effects on long-term memory, working memory, IQ, and higher levels of stress and anxiety.
GHB stands for
gamma-Hydroxybutyrate drug, commonly known as liquid ecstasy or simply, 'G.'
A detailed history of past or current substance use was obtained, including cannabis, MDMA (methylenedioxymethamphetamine), GHB (
gamma-hydroxybutyrate), crystal methamphetamine, cocaine, CAT (methcathinone), liquid MDMA (liquid E), heroin and methaqualone.
Baclofen, a GABA-B agonist, similar to phenibut, blocks voltage-gated calcium channels; however it does not have affinity for the
gamma-hydroxybutyrate (GHB) receptor; therefore abuse potential is minimal [9].
