gas equation

n
(General Physics) an equation that equates the product of the pressure and the volume of one mole of a gas to the product of its thermodynamic temperature and the gas constant. The equation is exact for an ideal gas and is a good approximation for real gases at low pressures. Also called: ideal gas equation or ideal gas law

Observers concluded that the Saudis, with their massive oil reserves (state-owned Saudi Aramco's assets beneath the sand are valued at an astounding $30 trillion, dwarfing the reserves of any other oil company on the planet), could easily outlast the American "cowboys"--the frackers who have upended the entire global oil and gas equation. Saudi Arabia, by letting (or driving) oil and gas prices lower, would force marginal producers into bankruptcy, with significant attendant reductions in production.
If Z less than 1, then attractive interactions dominate and the volume of the gas is less than that predicted by the ideal gas equation. If, however, Z greater than 1 then repulsive interactions dominate and the gas occupies a larger volume than expected.
Integrating this analytically by assuming constant [n.sub.p] and replacing v with the ideal gas equation of state v = RT/p gives:
