The most diverse genera were Senecio (28 species), Calamagrostis (21), Poa (21), Nototriche (19),
Gentianella (13), Valeriana (13), Werneria (10), Lupinus and Astragalus with nine species each, Festuca and Plantago with eight species each, Mniodes and Ranunculus with seven each; Geranium, Neobartsia, Oxalis, Perezia, Pycnophyllum, and Xenophyllum with six each; Cerastium, Hypochaeris, Sisyrinchium and Viola with five each (Table 3).

To support this view, seed developmental studies of
Gentianella germanica comparing histogenesis and maturation drying over 3 years, have indicated that seeds developed in colder years were smaller and poorly developed when compared with seeds from the warmer year (Wagner & Mitterhofer, 1998).
Subsequently, the group reported the isolation of ten xanthones from
Gentianella amarella, among which only triptexaxanthoside C had good inhibition of AChE with an [IC.sub.50] of 13.8 [micro]M (Urbain et al., 2008).
