Rescuers have called off the search for Sala (pictured inset) - a new record signing for Cardiff City - and pilot David Ibbotson with the chances of their survival being described as "extremely remote" by Guernsey's harbour master.
Guernsey's harbour master said there is almost "zero chance" of finding survivors after a plane carrying Cardiff City striker Sala, 28, and pilot Dave Ibbotson, 60, vanished off Alderney on Monday.
"Next of kin have been informed of this development and my thoughts go out to the family of the pilot and passenger at this most difficult of times," Guernsey Harbour Master David Barker said in a statement.
Northumbria Police said they did not attend the incident on Friday as there was no concern for the safety of the public and it was dealt with by the Port of Tyne and harbour master.
