If you drive a hybrid vehicle, you're probably already familiar with hypermiling (or "to hypermile"), which is an "attempt to maximize gas mileage by making fuel-conserving adjustments to one's car and one's driving techniques." Some of these adjustments seem logical, like driving the speed limit and maintaining proper tire pressure, but others are a bit more "eccentric" (the editors' word, not mine), such as driving without shoes so that you increase the foot's sensitivity on the accelerator, and parking so that you don't have to back up to exit the space.
