leetspeak

A form of online jargon in which alphabetical characters are habitually replaced by numerical or nonalphanumerical characters (such as hyphens, underscores, and punctuation symbols) For example the word “leet” may be spelled “l33t.” Deliberate misspellings are also common. For example “cool” is commonly spelled “kewl.”

I was amused a couple of weeks ago when I read Phil Cullen's (2016) comments about 'testucating corporations' in an article that also included 'leetspeak'--his use of 'OMG' when referring to the government's recently announced intention to test Year 1 students.
