male pattern baldness

n.
Progressive loss of scalp hair in men that usually begins in early adulthood and characteristically leads to loss of hair on the crown and above the temples; androgenetic alopecia. Also called male pattern hair loss.

Grade I, II and IIa in Hamilton-Norwood classification were defined as normal for male pattern alopecia. The volunteers were evaluated in 6 age groups: 20-29, 30-39, 40-49, 50-59, 60- 69, and 70 years and over.
The incidental findings in scalp in the latter group included dandruff, male pattern alopecia, premature greying, matting of hair, hemangioma, cradle cap, sparse hair and woolly hair.
However, most cases of hair loss in males are genetic and are known as male pattern alopecia, said Dr Mike Ryan.
