Malfunction of CFTR channel leads to manifestation of multisystem diseases including airway disease, pancreatic failure, meconium ileus, male infertility and elevated levels of Na and Cl in sweat (3, 4).
Patients can also present with chronic gastrointestinal manifestations including acute or recurrent pancreatitis, pancreatic insufficiency causing steatorrhea and failure to thrive, neonatal cholestasis, and meconium ileus [21].
The patient is a 22-year-old woman of Caucasian origin diagnosed with CF shortly after birth, due to meconium ileus, which was operated on the second day of life.
Segmental volvulus has been described as twisting of bowel loops due to an anomaly such as meconium ileus (related to cystic fibrosis), atresia, mesenteric defects, duplication or mesenteric cysts, congenital diaphragmatic hernia or abdominal wall defects, or alternatively can be classified as idiopathic [7].
Meconium Ileus is frequently described as a significant clinical evidence for CF and these infants should be screen promptly as advocated by Sawicka et al.14 from Poland and Mushtaq et al.
