Toric
multifocal IOL of a single company--ez toric AMO was used for the all the patients.
The ReZoom NXG1
multifocal IOL (Abbott Medical Optics, Santa Ana, CA, USA) is a three-piece, refractive, hydrophobic acrylic, aspheric IOL with UV blocking and an OptiEdge design that is claimed to minimize edge glare and reduce posterior capsular opacification.
If we use the term 'refractive surgery' however, we can also include other ways to help you get rid of glasses (near and distance) with the options of KAMRA presbyopia inlay -- it is a safe, proven and lasting solution to correct presbyopia and restore your everyday near vision, ICL (implantable contact lens) and Toric ICL,
multifocal IOL, trifocal IOL, and Crystalens accommodating IOL can be used for patients for whom the traditional laser methods are unsuitable or who are reaching the presbyopic age and cataract surgery may be looming -- my other surgical passion.
Younger patients with presbyopia, in which near vision becomes blurry, also may eliminate the need for glasses with a
multifocal IOL through a procedure called refractive lens exchange that typically is not covered by insurance.
presented his work titled "Secondary Implantation of the Array
Multifocal IOL in Patients with Previous Monofocal IOLs" in the session on Intraocular Surgery and Presbyopia Correcting Lens Implants.
Initially, in the earlier years the
multifocal IOL were used extensively.
As a new
multifocal IOL concept, refractive rotational asymmetry has been introduced into clinical practice for about a half decade, the main part of the lens behaves as a standard monofocal IOL, but in a specific sector of the lens, light is split into numerous foci.
This single group cohort study, undertaken at Aga Khan University Hospital, Karachi, from Jan 2012 to September 2013, assessed patients' satisfaction, spectacle independence and visual disturbance after implantation of
multifocal IOLs. A total of 39 patients who underwent bilateral cataract surgery with
multifocal IOL implantation were included for telephonic interviews.
Material and Method: In this prospective study, 52 eyes of 27 patients had a new
multifocal IOL OptiVis[TM] implantation through 2.5 mm incision after cataract surgery with phacoemulsification.
Higher the age group better is the acceptance of
Multifocal IOL and its visual outcome.
This was a prospective study involving patients bilaterally implanted with one brand of
multifocal IOL (the same IOL implanted in both eyes).
