In this experiment the antipredator responses of our native Elimia laqueta and exotic
Nerite snail behaviors were compared in response to our native predator, Orconectes durelli.

The olive
nerite snail, Neritina reclivata, is irregularly distributed along coastal regions in the Gulf of Mexico and Caribbean Sea (Lehman and Hamilton, 1981).
From 2007 to 2009, abundant benthic macrofauna (taxa accounting for greater than 5% of total abundance combined) at the reef included the
nerite Nerita yoldi Recluz, the Asian periwinkle Littorina brevicula (Philippi, 1844), the periwinkle Littoraria intermedia (Philippi, 1846), and the nereid worm Perinereis aibuhitensis Grube.
The range consists of 12 interior and wall ceiling paints with colours from muted blues (with names like
nerite shell and rock crystal) through to calming beiges and yellows (twisted willow, bleached wood and sandy beaches) and soothing greens (marram grass, kelp and salt marsh).
The species Nerita peloronta (bleeding-tooth
nerite), Nerita tassellata (checkered
nerite), Nerita versicolor (four-toothed
nerite), and Puperia pupa (zebra
nerite) were frozen prior to study.

"The tiny rice shells, strawberry shells and light green
nerites are more difficult to find now and costly," she said, adding that she also uses clam, scallop, welk, auger, nautilus shells, sea stars, sand dollars and pink urchins in her creations.
