Nine genera were recognized by Chamberlain (1919, 1935), which were placed in one family: Cycadaceae, belonging to the Order Cycadales. Johnson (1959) reinstated the genus Lepidozamia and recognized three families: Cycadaceae (monogeneric); Stangeriaceae (monogeneric); and the Zamiaceae, which included the eight remaining genera.
