Chronic
pansinusitis was detected in 7 of 17 cases.Frontal sinusitis findings were detected in 7 cases.Sinusitis was not observed in 3 cases.
Other findings were seen in 22% cases--these included arachnoid cyst, basal ganglia edema, benign cerebellar tonsillar ectopia, calcified granuloma suggestive of ependymal cyst/choroid plexus cyst, choroid plexus cyst, confluent hyperintensity, cyst, diffuse cerebral atrophy, diffuse meningeal enhancement, gliotic changes, hyperintensities, ischemic patches suggestive of cerebral malaria, mesial temporal sclerosis, mild PVL, old infarct with gliosis, pachygyria,
pansinusitis, postictal edema/ischemic changes, and viral encephalitis in one case each, and prominent CSF space in two cases, respectively.
Scans of 1166 patients who presented with damaged anatomical structure caused by previous sinonasal surgery, nasal polyposis, sinonasal tumors or
pansinusitis, or whose scans were not properly performed were excluded from the study.
Kjoer, "A case of orbital apex syndrome in collateral
pansinusitis," Acta Ophthalmologica, vol.
The analysis of CT scan pictures showed Deviated nasal septum in 32 (41%),
Pansinusitis in 16 (20.5%), Isolated Maxillary sinusitis unilateral in 08 (10.25%), bilateral in 12 (15.38%) and normal in 10 (12.8%) patients.
Complications include sinusitis and, in rare cases,
pansinusitis, cerebral thrombophlebitis, and brain abscess.
Computed tomography (CT) of the sinuses demonstrated left-sided
pansinusitis with complete opacification of the maxillary and ethmoid sinuses.
Ninety two percent of patients have impairment of upper respiratory system or inner ear [2] represented by: rhinorrhea, nasal crusting, nasal pyramid collapse ("saddle" nose),
pansinusitis, inner or media otitis, together with sensorineural deafness, paralysis, chronic mastoiditis with secondary facial nerve paralysis caused by the bone destruction.
The computerized tomography (CT) scans revealed
pansinusitis and bilateral frontal sinus mucoceles--one originated from the right frontal sinus and extended to the cranium, while the other was located at the left frontal sinus with intraorbital extension.
