Low fluoride levels in the three rivers (Temi, Nduruma, and Tengeru) in both seasons are mainly caused by low fluoride composition in the
phonolite feldspar rocks which predominate at the upstream main catchment areas of these rivers, thus discharging low fluorides amount in water.

Either way, the magma that formed the tower cooled slowly over thousands of years, crystallizing into what geologists call
