Tracheal rings were obtained by cutting (in a transverse direction) isolated trachea after careful dissection in a dish containing physiologic salt solution to remove adjacent tissues.
The physiologic salt solution used was Krebs-Henseleit, which had the following composition: 118.0 mmol/L NaCl, 4.7 mmol/L KCl, 2.5 mmol/L Ca[Cl.sub.2], 1.2 mmol/L MgS[O.sub.4], 25.0 mmol/L NaHC[O.sub.3], 1.2 mmol/L K[H.sub.2]P[O.sub.4], 10.0 mmol/L glucose).
The synthetic peptide in a neutral pH physiologic salt solution was run at 0.5 mL/min on SE-HPLC, and the resulting elution profile is plotted in Fig.
