Many animals can convert extra tryptophan (an amino acid) to niacin, but cats have large amounts of the enzyme
picolinic acid carboxylase that interferes with the conversion.
Briefly, through a series of enzymatic steps, tryptophan is normally converted into kynurenine, then to 3-hydroxykynurenine via kynurenine 3-monooxygenase (KMO; B2, NAD[P.sup.+]), then 3-hydroxyanthranilic acid is formed by kynureninase (KYNU; B6), and proceeds down the pathway to become either acetyl-coA,
picolinic acid or quinolinic acid, which is further converted into NA[D.sup.+] through another series of enzymatic steps.
The results show the various organic acids present in the soil like (dl-Tartaric acid 5-Formylvanillic acid p-Phenylenediacetic acid 3 3-Dimethylacrylic acid r-Pentyloxybenzoic acid Glycolic acid Mesaconic acid
Picolinic acid along with other compounds of benzene.

Picolinic acid is a naturally occurring end-product of L-tryptophan catabolism via the kynurenine pathway, and its production is catalyzed by picolinic carboxylase (MEHLER, 1956).
Unlike 5-HTP, L-tryptophan is a building block for protein synthesis and is also metabolized to important compounds such as niacin and
picolinic acid. Consequently, if a person is deficient in tryptophan, then supplementing with L-tryptophan would provide a broader spectrum of benefits than would treatment with 5-HTP.

To answer your other question, all zinc picolinate products contain zinc attached to
picolinic acid, which acts as a well-absorbed carrier.
Zinc is absorbed in the presence of
picolinic acid and Vitamin B6 is needed for this reaction to occur.
