One of the best methods of doing this is to study aerial photographs of the area by means of a stereoscope.* A large-scale
planimetric map is a great aid in co-ordinating this advance planning and very useful to the tactical troops both prior to and after the landing has been made.
The benefit of this method is that utility collection would take place with the same process utilized to create the
planimetric map. In order to maximize the identification of features to be collected utilizing this method, utility features should be painted in the field.
If the structure cannot be found, the operator in the field will digitize its relative position on the pen-based computer's
planimetric map and note the feature's "Not Found" status.
The user retrieves the report file and a
planimetric map overview of the entire watershed is displayed.
When the remapping is completed, Newark will have a digital
planimetric map, Commissioner's Notes, and tax maps that are identical in content.
This was used for photogrammetric mapping producing heights as well as for
planimetric maps.
