It is suggested to use proctosigmoidoscopy because the majority of the cases are in the rectum and left colon.
The pre-treatment work-up was based on thorough history and physical examination including digital rectal examination and diagnosis was established on tissue biopsy via colonoscopy, proctosigmoidoscopy. Metastatic workup included chest X-ray PA view, Abdominopelvic computed tomography or magnetic resonance imaging (CT/MRI).
All patients were evaluated preoperatively with clinical examination and proctosigmoidoscopy and were classified using contrast-enhanced pelvic magnetic resonance imaging (MRI).
These patients warrant digital rectal exam and proctosigmoidoscopy as most of the tumours are within the reach of these examinations.
