United States-based Vaccinex has completed patient recruitment for the SIGNAL trial, a phase two multi-centre, randomised, double-blind, placebo controlled study in subjects with early manifest and late prodromal Huntington's disease to evaluate the safety, tolerability, pharmacokinetics, and efficacy of VX15/2503 (pepinemab), it was reported on Friday.
After a prodromal period of 7-10 days, unilateral or bilateral follicular conjunctivitis develops; within 2-4 days after onset of conjunctivitis, diffuse epithelial keratitis appears, followed by focal epithelial keratitis.
The disease can be broadly classified into three prominent categories: prodromal febrile stage followed by acute encephalitic stage marked by CNS involvement.
The prodromal symptoms of complications include myocarditis, hepatitis, encephalitis, low platelet count, and multiple organ failure, the agency added.
"Various clinical disturbances precede MS diagnosis by several years, supporting a prodromal phase to the disease and improving our clinical knowledge of early MS," the authors write.
