If inequalities should arise in some States from duties on particular objects, these will, in all probability, be counterbalanced by
proportional inequalities in other States, from the duties on other objects.
The other interior objects will require a
proportional degree of information with regard to them.
The estimation in which these gentlemen were held, according to one of the most scientific exponents of the Gun Club, was "
proportional to the masses of their guns, and in the direct ratio of the square of the distances attained by their projectiles."
The
proportional width of the gape of mouth, the
proportional length of the eyelids, of the orifice of the nostrils, of the tongue (not always in strict correlation with the length of beak), the size of the crop and of the upper part of the oesophagus; the development and abortion of the oil-gland; the number of the primary wing and caudal feathers; the relative length of wing and tail to each other and to the body; the relative length of leg and of the feet; the number of scutellae on the toes, the development of skin between the toes, are all points of structure which are variable.
They were therefore in universal use among Prince John's courtiers; and the long mantle, which formed the upper garment of the Saxons, was held in
proportional derision.
Other things being equal, the value of a book, and especially of an author's whole work, is

I imagine this repulsive aspect originates from the features being placed in positions, with respect to each other, somewhat
proportional to those of the human face; and thus we obtain a scale of hideousness.
'the change of motion is
proportional to the impressed force,' or that 'whatever has extension is divisible,' these propositions are to be understood of motion and extension in general; and nevertheless it will not follow that they suggest to my thoughts an idea of motion without a body moved, or any determinate direction and velocity, or that I must conceive an abstract general idea of extension, which is neither line, surface, nor solid, neither great nor small, black, white, nor red, nor of any other determinate colour.
If industry, frugality, and disinterested integrity were alike the virtues of all, there would, apparently, be more of the social spirit, in making all property a common stock, and giving to each individual a
proportional title to the wealth of the whole.
Thus while I tell the truth about loobies, my reader's imagination need not be entirely excluded from an occupation with lords; and the petty sums which any bankrupt of high standing would be sorry to retire upon, may be lifted to the level of high commercial transactions by the inexpensive addition of
proportional ciphers.
The first question asks if we should keep the current First Past the Post voting system or move to a system of
proportional representation.
