The 2019 Provincial
Ringette Championships will return to the place the sport all began this March.
A study from Canada about recreational female players of
ringette (a sport similar to ice hockey) showed that players who planned to return for the next season viewed social cohesion as significantly higher than those who did not plan to return; and a follow-up study with elite players of the same sport supported the findings of the first study (Spink, 1995).
We also have a really interesting sport called
ringette, which has gathered momentum and piqued interest for a lot of people."
Supporting The Nine Stages of Athlete Development, FASSCI offers a variety of skating programs for recreational to high performance skaters; for those wanting to learn to skate to athletes wanting to improve their on-ice speed and power for hockey or
ringette or for the beginner to nationally ranked speed skating athlete.
Recently at the Southdale Community Centre, little warning was given to community members that fees would be going up from $85 per family to $110 per hockey and
ringette player.
She enjoys music (especially playing the piano and violin),
ringette (a game played on ice with sticks and a rubber ring), skiing, swimming, reading, and writing.
Social cohesion was also the predominant factor when examining the willingness to return for the following season in a sample of 142 recreational female
ringette players (Spink, 1995).
Canadian women are viewed as legitimate for initially having participated in female versions of hockey such as
ringette before playing hockey.
She competes in national-level field hockey and international-level
ringette. And she is the youngest female athlete ever to play on a Canadian university team!
