ThesaurusAntonymsRelated WordsSynonymsLegend:
Noun1.rotational latency - (computer science) the time it takes for a specific block of data on a data track to rotate around to the read/write head
computer science, computing - the branch of engineering science that studies (with the aid of computers) computable processes and structures
access time - (computer science) the interval between the time data is requested by the system and the time the data is provided by the drive; "access time is the sum of seek time and rotational latency and command processing overhead"
interval, time interval - a definite length of time marked off by two instants

Random I/O will never occur at throughput levels of sequential I/O since a random I/O involves moving the disk head (seek time), waiting on the disk platter to spin to the right location (rotational latency) in addition to the time required to move the data.
--Lower rotational latency of 20 percent (time it takes disk to get data under the read/write head)
Rotational latency can also be reduced using out-of-order data delivery, a feature that doesn't require the head to access the starting LBA first.
