The ash content of African nutmeg is lower than the value for
scarlet runner bean flour (4.71%) and those of bambara groundnut (4.30%; Aremu et al., 2005), cowpea (3.7%; Olaofe et al., 1994), soy bean (4.12%; Temple et al., 1991) and milk powder (4.70%; Ahmed et al., 2008).
Of course, there are considerably more than five types of beans, but I think my all-time favourite has to be the
scarlet runner bean.
When the
scarlet runner bean, Phaseolus coccineus, was first introduced from Mexico it was grown purely as a decorative plant and was regarded as an exotic and tender thing.
These plants include lily, cardinal flower, honeysuckle, bee balm, trumpet vine, abelia, beauty bush, scarlet salvia, blue salvia, flowering tobacco, primrose, evening primrose, wiegelia, lily of the valley, single petunia, morning glory, nasturtium, snapdragon, foxglove, fuschia, pineapple and common sages, impatiens, poppies, red clover,
scarlet runner bean, sweet peas, squash.
Think also of using
Scarlet Runner Bean, Hearts & Honey vine, Love-in-a-Puff, Sweet Peas, or any other vine that will delight you and enrich your garden.
Given the widespread occurrence and necessity of tripping in self-compatible species (
scarlet runner bean, Phaseolus coccineus L., Webster et al., 1980; broad bean, Vicia faba L., Riedel and Wort, 1960; clover, Trifoilum spp., Knight and Hollowell, 1973; pigeon pea, Cajanus cajan L., James et al., 1989), it is not unreasonable to suggest that perhaps selection operates to retain tripping.
The two best annual vines for this task are
scarlet runner bean and thunbergia, the black-eyed Susan vine.

scarlet runner bean).
Scarlet runner beans offer knockout-red, hummingbird-attracting blooms, then delicious beans.
