According to Mike Watts, product manager-modular instruments at the company, "The PXIe-4081 7 1/2-digit DMM builds on the technology used in the PXI-4071 DMM, using a unique combination of off-the-shelf high-speed ADC technology and a custom-designed sigma-delta converter to provide the noise, linearity, and speed performance required to achieve high-speed and high-precision measurements in a single instrument.
Thus the overall sigma-delta converter linearity and resolution are limited by the precision of the multibit DAC.
In a low-frequency sigma-delta converter, the digital output filter often is designed to have nulls at multiples of the AC power frequency.
It accepts ICP[R] accelerometer and microphone inputs directly, simultaneously samples all channels at 51.2 kHz with a separate Sigma-Delta converter for each input channel, and measures standard AC and DC voltages.
