Other scarce visitors this week include a
Snow Bunting at Moelfre and Black-throated Diver off the Great Orme, while eight Slavonian Grebes are among a flock of over 200 Great-crested Grebes off Llanfairfechan.
Another bird which will soon be seen regularly on Cleveland's breaches is the
snow bunting. A small flock of these black, brown and white birds usually arrive here in most winters and spend their time flying between the two Gares looking for seeds and insects.
Simply surround the shrub with a pool of sunny yellow Mammoth or create a moonlit glow with Jeanne d'Arc or
Snow Bunting, which have white petals.
Arctic's multidisciplinary nature makes for interesting reading: it is stimulating to find articles ranging from the technical to the philosophical: In the September issue of Volume 65, I read "First Report of a
Snow Bunting x Lapland Longspur Hybrid" and "The Power and Peril of `Vulnerability' ..." with equal interest.
These birds have earned the unfortunate distinction of a spot on Audubon's list: American Bittern, Black-throated Sparrow, Boreal Chickadee, Common Grackle, Common Tern, Eastern Meadowlark, Evening Grosbeak, Field Sparrow, Grasshopper Sparrow, Greater Scaup, Horned Lark, Lark Sparrow, Little Blue Heron, Loggerhead Shrike, Northern Bobwhite, Northern Pintail, Ruffed Grouse, Rufous Hummingbird,
Snow Bunting and Whip-poor-will.
Bardsey Bird Observatory recorded a late
snow bunting and a now-rare turtle dove, and while a few yellow wagtails have been spotted, only Cemlyn hosted a scarcer blue-headed wag.

Come-from-behind performer
Snow Bunting has been a grand servant to Jedd O'Keeffe, and I can't see the trainer persevering with the horse at the age of nine unless he was pretty confident he still had another success in him.
The
snow bunting makes its home mainly in the Cairngorms, where it can nest at the edge of snowfields.
