'Text spamming is an industry-wide issue, and we acknowledge that Globe Telecom's anti-spam campaign will not be as effective without the help of our customers.
By 2003--4 a motley crew of spammers that ranged from semi-legitimate business entrepreneurs to outright criminals was increasingly being put under pressure by anti-spam filtering systems that used ever more sophisticated algorithms, and by harsher penalties for "spamming".
For these reasons, botnets are widely used for spamming. In a recent survey, it was found that 83.2% of all email spam was sent by botnets [5].
Sophos' new Dirty Dozen list of spamming countries shows that more than half of all spam messages originate in Asia with South Korea increasingly becoming a hot spot.
