Spinal anesthesia with
tetracaine in 7.5% or 0.75% glucose in adolescents and adults.
However, in two alarming case reports, compounded topical anesthetic products consisting of lidocaine and
tetracaine were implicated in the deaths of two young women who had applied the products in preparation for laser hair removal procedures.
Benzonatate is closely related to the amide anesthetics such as
tetracaine, and it rapidly induces profound anesthesia in the oropharynx.
In a feasibility study that was conducted at her institution, OtoLAM could not be accomplished because of insufficient penetration in children who had narrow ear canals and in those who had an adverse reaction to the topical
tetracaine used for anesthesia.
In Clinical Anaesthesia by Barash et al, 5th edition, chapter 12 discussed that addition of 75 mcg to 150 mcg of clonidine to subarachnoid
tetracaine or bupivacaine prolonged the duration of sensory and motor blockade indicating the analgesic effect given of clonidine in our study.
During surgery, the patient was placed in the supine position, the nasal pack was removed under endoscopic guidance and the bleeding points, particularly those located in the olfactory fissure, sphenoethmoidal recess and middle nasal meatus, were clearly examined from a craniocaudal perspective after the application of topical anaesthesia using
tetracaine and oxymetazoline hydrochloride spray (Fig.1a).
Patients in group A received a single-dose injection of 0.2-0.5mL of bevacizumab subconjunctivally using an insulin syringe after applying topical anesthetic eye drops (oxybuprocaine 0.4%,
tetracaine 0.1%) for 15 minutes.
iii) Lidocaine allergy Reactions mostly occur to the ester group of anesthetics like procaine,
tetracaine, and benzocaine, derivatives of para- aminobenzoic acid (PABA), an established allergen.50,51,52 True allergic reactions to pure lidocaine are extremely rare.
Tetracaine and epinephrine eyedrops (Colirio Anestesico, Allergan) were administered before the preparation of the surgical bed.
In 1979 Fox, Villanueva and Schutta reported the first case of myoclonus after spinal anaesthesia with
tetracaine (1).
Several new devices are under investigation or are entering the marketplace to ease the pain of injections, including a topical patch (Synera)--similar to warming patches used by outdoorsmen--that contains lidocaine and
tetracaine; a laser-assisted device (Epiture Easytouch) that provides L.M.X.4 analgesia in 5 minutes; and an experimental device that uses a poof of lidocaine to prepare the skin for an injection.
