In the literature, studies deal mainly with pollen longevity in relation to its bi- or trinucleated condition at anthesis (Brewbaker 1967; Hoekstra and Bruinsma 1975: Hoekstra 1983; Mulcahy and Mulcahy 1983) because after anthesis, binucleated pollen grains have greater longevity than trinucleated ones.
