Byline: ANI Washington, September 23 (ANI): Researchers are hopeful that a clinical trial of a new drug will help patients of adrenocortical carcinoma (ACC), a rare but aggressive cancer that hits the adrenal glands.
Adrenocortical carcinoma usually presents with dysfunctional uterine bleeding in women with increased amounts of androstenedione and estrogens that results in Cushing's syndrome, suggesting inefficient conversion of cortisol (4).
The topics include adrenocortical dysfunction, the adrenals in oncology, imaging adrenal dysfunction, the magnetic resonance imaging (MRI) of the adrenal glands, single proton imaging, positron emission tomography (PET), and evolving functional and advanced image analysis techniques for characterizing adrenal lesions.
