aeronomy  (â-rn-m)
The scientific study of the upper atmospheric regions of the Earth and other planets, where the ionization of gas takes place. Aeronomy is also concerned with the atmospheres around comets and satellites, or any other atmosphere where ionization, particularly of oxygen, takes place.
