Saab Aerostructures was awarded a renewed, $60 million contract by
Airbus UK to supply ailerons for A320 family aircraft. What's more, for the
same amount of deflection that a conventional aileron provides, the
deformable wing edge produced greater torque for turning the aircraft,
the researchers report in an upcoming special issue of the Journal of
Intelligent Materials Systems and Structures. Flip the hand
palm side up and back--this is roll (controlled by ailerons on
today's planes). |
