(27) Two research groups (28,29) have evaluated the effect of
circumferential pressure through the use of an air splint over 5 minutes
in subjects without lesions in the CNS and those with hypertonia
secondary to spinal cord injury or cerebrovascular accident (CVA). An air splint was also used to
help stabilize the paretic knee in patients who were unable to fully
control their knees during standing. We attempted to
decrease cutaneous input by using the air splint on the forearm and by
preventing the shoulder from contacting the table. |
