It was only when I caught myself alphabetising the contents of my food cupboard that I knew I had to get back into work.
Alphabetising their stock or relying on fractionalised decimals like Dewey, librarians are obsessive classifiers who impose on chaos an order they know to be fictional and false.
I am ignoring the mammoth list of chores that husband Chris has compiled, which include such delights as ironing, cleaning the floor, alphabetising our CDs, planting out the tomatoes, putting up shelves etc.
