Affected individuals have variable combinations of cerebellar ataxia, progressive external opthalmoplegia (paralysis of eye muscle), pyramidal signs, dystonia (impairment of muscle tone) and amyotrophy (muscle wasting).
AIt may be neuralgic amyotrophy, where the nerves to the muscles around the shoulder are damaged.
