A: There is no real good way to determine the age of a tree, other than actually counting the annual rings on the stump, but even that assumes solid wood all the way to the core.
The widths and densities of annual rings in trees are partly controlled by climate, specifically temperature, precipitation, and snow cover.
It is considered by some to be the world's "oldest living thing," with a single tree containing annual rings going back 4000 years or more.
