THE Echo article regarding Mr Hanef Bhamjee, a solicitor who has been awarded a prestigious certificate in recognition of his involvement in the Wales anti-apartheid movement, reminded me that when Mahatma K Gandhi (pictured) was in South Africa in the late 1890s he joined the British Army there and became a sergeant major in charge of a stretcher party and, no doubt, would have been entitled to military decorations.
Her mother, Mary, was jailed for being part of the anti-apartheid movement the day before MPHO turned one and took her daughter to jail with her.
1/1/2009 1:17:09 PM Helen Suzman, one of South Africa's most celebrated white anti-apartheid campaigners, has died at the age of 91.
