Antibiotic-associated colitis maybe associated with abdominal cramping, fever, serum leukocytes, faecal leukocytes, hypoalbuminaemia from malabsorption, colonic thickening on computed tomography (CT) and pseudomembrane formation.
The organism accounts for approximately 20 percent of cases of antibiotic-associated diarrhea and many of the cases of antibiotic-associated colitis.
Patients receiving marketed fluoroquinolones have reported serious and occasionally fatal hypersensitivity and/or anaphylactic reactions, peripheral neuropathy, antibiotic-associated colitis and tendon ruptures.
