The common antidiabetic drug metformin (Glucophage[R]), for example, reportedly depletes folic acid by affecting its absorption.
Inform the diabetic patient that burdock may increase the risk of hypoglycemia and that insulin or oral antidiabetic drug doses may need to be reduced.
It is seen sometimes, when a patient takes antidiabetic drugs in more than the required quantity, or takes reduced diet with the usual dose of the antidiabetic drug, there occurs a sudden fall in blood sugar (hypoglycaemia), which may cause in a small percentage of cases, generalized epileptic convulsions.
