The approved social worker can only make such an application on the recommendation of two doctors.
For example, if someone is reported to be unwell in the community or if someone has had previous contact with mental health services and there may still be concerns, then the Approved Social Worker has to use their best endeavours to ensure that an assessment takes place to ensure the individual is not a risk to themselves or others as a result of deteriorating mental health.
