A scuba diver trained to work in underwater installations and conduct, assist in, or be a subject of scientific research. Also called oceanaut.

I spoke to my friend Lou Schreiner who is the Chairman of the Northeast Aquanauts Scuba Club in Flushing, Queens.
In calm waters, near a reef off New Providence Island, instructors teach novice aquanauts how to mount the SUB and then guide them into 15 feet of clear ocean to motor past coral reefs and brightly colored tropical fish.
Onboard technician Glenn Taylor hands each aquanaut a towel.
