At the arrises of the vaults, where the ceramic grid meets the three-dimensional curves, the tiles stop and the irregular gap between the two geometries is taken up with grey render flush with the tile surface, creating fretted edges emphasizing the curves. The starfish vault, in which the four arrises of the groin vault are flattened and embellished to form a four-pointed star, was to become something of a Soane speciality after its use in the Breakfast Room. |
