Brian Eno, one of the founder members of 70s glam and art rock hitmakers Roxy Music, and now a respected newspaper columnist and record producer, spoke out in favour of the proposed eco-village at Eastgate, Weardale.
His anything goes approach to running a studio is reflected in the work he has produced--particularly by artists looking to marry the thorny aesthetics of noisy art rock with more electronic elements.
Combine this with a desire to create a specific aesthetic that favours the handmade over pop gloss--through the design of costumes, merchandise, posters and CD covers--and it becomes clear that with Les Georges Leningrad and their loosely affiliated cohort of like-minded bands, a new 21st-century version of art rock has emerged.
