assault craft unit

A permanently commissioned naval organization, subordinate to the commander, naval beach group, that contains landing craft and crews necessary to provide lighterage required in an amphibious operation. Also called ACU.

The ship brought two MH-60S Seahawks from the Dragon Whales of HSC-28 Detachment 4; Tactical Air Control Squadron (TACRON) 21; four utility landing craft from Assault Craft Unit 2; Beachmaster Unit 2; Amphibious Construction Battalion 2 (Seabees); and Fleet Surgical Team 2 to Galveston.
