The purpose of this article is to explore the social context and meanings of autonomy to physical therapy.
In reality it is many things, but self-determination theory suggests that a wide variety of motivators might be grouped based on an individual's desire to satisfy the psychological needs of competence, autonomy and relatedness.
He defines autonomy as a state which allows us to achieve, or at least to strive for, our goals or preferences.
