La incidencia de bacteriemia relacionada con los catéteres tunelizados varía (0,18-10,5 bacteriemias/ 1000 catéteres-día) con una media aportada por la mayoría de autores entre 1,4-3,7 bacteriemias/ 1000 catéteres-día (6-10).
En segundo lugar, se estudia la incidencia de infecciones, tanto locales, evaluando la existencia de exudado en el orificio del catéter y/o utilización de antibióticos tópicos (mupirocina) como bacteriemia secundaria al catéter, indicado por la aparición de Ta > 38[grados] C y el uso de antibióticos iv.
