The much-derided bendy bus will disappear from London's streets by 2015, the mayor, Boris Johnson, declared yesterday as he unveiled plans to reintroduce that bus-spotter's favourite - the Routemaster.
The lay-by was selected as it is the only stretch of road near the recently redeveloped Reed Square area with enough room for an extra-long bendy bus to rest between journeys.
If, during the late 1890s, someone invented and produced the bendy bus they would have been feted and hero- worshipped by the travelling public, and quite right too.
