``You can conceivably get into a situation where you've got bicycle traffic on both sides of the roads, and you've got two drivers in the center lane,'' said Sean Comey, a spokesman for the Auto Club of Northern California. He argues that the state had not previously been thinking ahead for foot and bicycle traffic. The researchers observed automobile traffic volume and speed, the presence of bicycle lanes, crosswalks, traffic signals, whether the environment appeared to be safe for pedestrian and bicycle traffic, the ease with which pedestrians and bicyclists could maneuver across the campus, and availability of facilities for physical activity. |
