The Norrmejerier plant in Umea, a very northern city in Sweden, is the first dairy plant in the country to have its own biogas facility for the recovery of residuals.
Biogas is a combination of gases, consisting mostly of methane, produced during the natural decomposition of organic matter in an airtight environment.
In all, 82 households in Badrahani have bought biogas plants at heavily subsidised rates under the scheme, which is funded by the Dutch and German governments.
