The additional results from BioAlliance Pharma's pivotal Phase III study with miconazole Lauriad([R]) mucoadhesive buccal tablets (MBT) demonstrated comparable efficacy and safety profile to that of clotrimazole troches (administered five times per day) for oropharyngeal candidiasis (OPC), in HIV-positive patients in 40 sites in the United States, Canada and South Africa.
The lawsuit is based upon an Abbreviated New Drug Application (ANDA) filed by Watson seeking FDA approval for a generic equivalent of fentanyl buccal tablets to be sold in the United States.
Results on two European phase III studies were also presented in two posters entitled: "Miconazole Mucoadhesive Buccal Tablet for the Treatment of Oropharyngeal Candidiasis in Head and Neck Cancer Patients" and "Evaluation of Miconazole MucoAdhesive Buccal Tablet: a novel once daily antifungal treatment for Oropharyngeal Candidiasis".
