A drug administered orally in the treatment of depression and as an aid in the cessation of tobacco smoking, thought to inhibit neuronal uptake of serotonin, norepinephrine, and dopamine in the central nervous system.

Trivedi studied 565 patients who continued taking citalopram along with either bupropion or the serotonin-enhancing drug buspirone.
Then patients were randomly assigned to receive either sexual therapy, bupropion 150 mg daily, or combined therapy.
For example, bupropion has been licensed separately as an antismoking drug (Zyban) and an antidepressant (Wellbutrin); Rogaine, now used to treat hair loss, was originally developed as a treatment for high blood pressure.
